In 2006, the Circle of Women, in consultation with the weavers, piloted a literacy program. Augustina and Edith (left) are
indigenous teachers in our literacy program.

As a child, Odilia (right) went to primary school where children said things to her which “made her heart hurt.” She didn’t go back. After attending the Circle of Women’s literacy classes she can now read and speak Spanish. She sees learning as very important and
knows it can be accomplished in a safe environment. She is going on to
primary school and probably will be able to finish within 18 months.
